USPPA 9 Ball Rules

  • Cue ball fouls only, except when an object ball has been knocked off the table. The object ball is not spotted, and the opponent has ball in hand anywhere on the table.
  • One push out, only after the break. If your opponent scratches on the break, it is ball in hand anywhere on the table.
  • Any ball off the table is ball in hand anywhere on the table.
  • Three fouls in a row by the same player results in loss of game.
  • There are no object ball fouls. If you move or touch an object ball or balls, your opponent has the option to leave them where they are, or put them back where they were.
  • Remain seated and quiet when your opponent is at the table. Do not break down your cue when your opponent is at the table.
  • Lag or flip for break. Scratch on the lag is loss of the lag.
  • Winner breaks.
  • Player must hit the one ball on the break to start the game.
  • A legal break occurs when the one ball is struck first, and at least 5 balls are driven to a rail. If this does not occur, you must re-rack and break again.
  • Remember, when you lose a match, the tournament director may require you to mark a score sheet for the next match.
  • If an object ball or the cue ball should stop at the edge of a pocket, and you get up to take your turn and that ball falls in the pocket, that ball is then put back near the edge of the pocket. You may now take your turn at the table.
  • With Texas Express Rules, all object balls stay down except the nine ball!
  • Shoot all nine balls! Never give up the game with balls remaining.
